Making best out of waste

Did you know that, the thousands of tons of the kitchen wet waste you send to the dumping grounds polluting the environment can be converted as the fertile manure? You can make this is
possible. Read how.
  • Keep two bins/buckets in your kitchen, one for wet garbage and other for dry garbage.
  • All dry items (papers, metals, glass pieces, plastic etc) put it in the bin meant for dry garbage. This will be given to the society workers as usual.
  • All kitchen waste (left out food, vegetable/fruit peels, used Tea Powder etc) put it in the bin meant for wet garbage.
  • Daily Shift the wet garbage from the kitchen bin to another bigger container or a plastic drum (which can be kept on the balcony, coutryard, terrace etc).
  • Everyday spray the diluted EM solution over the wet garbage of the bigger container. (EM Solution has to be diluted with water i.e. 10ml (2 caps) of this EM solution and half a liter of water). EM solution prevents the smell and speeds up the decomposition process of the wet garbage. After each time you spray, wash the sprayer with clean water.
  • Gradually, the wet garbage in the container keeps decomposing reducing the volume. When the container is nearly full, stop putting the fresh wet garbage. Use garbage, and keep the first container idle for some more weeks till it decomposes further.
  • After about 6-8 weeks, the decomposed wet garbage in the big container becomes blackish and powdery. It may be dried in the sunlight for a few days which will turn it into dry powder. This is the final product (the fertile compost) which can be used for your home grown plants or society garden, and even can be sold.
  • Similar process will be followed for the second container.

NOTE

1) Water should not be allowed to accumulate in the container/drum/compost pit in which wet garbage is dumped. The water must pass out through a few holes at the bottom of the container. This liquid can be diluted and used for your plants.

2) The container of the wet garbage should not be covered. As the gas produced by the wet garbage is freely released in the air, there will not be any kind of smell.

3) The same process of segregation of garbage at source (each family) will be followed even when the whole housing society takes up the zero garbage project (except for composting, there will be a common pit in the society compound).

4) EM solution (concentrate) may be received by courier. Contact Mr Jere, Pune @ 9823036910 email @ bhumiagroservices@yahoo.co.in.
